Like many of you, we’re going to be staying put in Ireland this summer, but that doesn’t mean our staycation can’t be full of adventure! We’ve rounded up our top picks for a staycation with a difference this summer.
The Farmhouse Retreat - Co. Kerry
This farmhouse is truly a place to get away from it all! Situated on a working farm, this retreat is nestled below Ireland’s highest mountains on the famous Kerry Way trail in the heart of the Reeks District - so make sure to pack your hiking boots! The building dates back to 1802 and is an hour’s drive away from Kenmare and Killarney if you fancy a day trip. The hosts provide a welcome pack of homemade goodies and a fire starter pack, to make sure your stay gets off to a great and cosy start!
Lough Derg Glamping - Co. Clare
Glamping at its finest! This luxury bell tent is located in its own private harbour garden overlooking the beautiful Lough Derg. There’s no ‘roughing-it here, as the tent has a double bed and seating area and you also will have access to your own private bathroom and kitchen.
Thatched Cottage - Wild Atlantic Way
Step back in time and stay in a 200-year-old thatched cottage. Located on the Wild Atlantic Way, the cottage is close by to Inch beach and is in the perfect location for adventures on the Ring of Kerry. The cottage is full of character and would be the perfect escape for a few days.
Pre-famine cottage - Co. Galway
This pre-famine cottage offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s only ten minutes away from Galway city, but feels lightyears away! The cottage is made for retreats and doesn’t provide tv or internet, instead, its hosts encourage you to relax by the fire, play board games or read a good book - we love it!
Tiny House - Co. Donegal
Fancy staying in a shipping container? This tiny house is much more than a standard shipping container, it’s a piece of modern design based on the Wild Atlantic coast. It’s a luxurious stay with its own small coastal lake overlooking Traighenna Bay in West Donegal. It’s super close to the beach and village pubs and pets are welcome - yay!
Mountain Pod - Co. Donegal
Nestled in the Donegal mountains and overlooking a serene lake, this pod is the ultimate alternative getaway. As well as giving us serious Lord of the Rings vibes, the pod is the perfect spot for hiking and discovering the gorgeous Donegal scenery.
Urban Treehouse - Cork
Live out your childhood dreams and staycation in a real-life treehouse! This Urban retreat is only a five-minute walk to Cork city centre, but it feels like your miles away. The treehouse has a deck at the top level which has gorgeous views of the city - we can just imagine having our morning coffee there!
